The 2019 BPOS conference was held on 28th February – 1st March 2019 at the Double Tree Hilton Hotel, Chester.

Theme: Innovations in Psychosocial Oncology: Research, Education & Practice

The conference was hosted locally by Professor Nick Hulbert-Williams and colleagues from Chester Research Unit for the Psychology of Health (CRUPH), University Chester.

This was a joint meeting with NCRI Psychosocial Oncology & Survivorship, following successful joint meetings in previous years.

Cancellation Fees

All registration cancellations must be sent by email to: Lorraine Warrington (BPOS treasurer) treasurer@bpos.org | 0113 2068504 .
Cancellations notices received prior to 11th February 2019 will receive a full refund, minus a £20 administration fee. Cancellations received after 11th February 2019 will not be eligible for a refund. However, you may nominate someone else to go in your place at no extra charge.
Refunds will be processed after the conference has ended.

Bursaries

We extended the deadline for applications for our consumer bursary until the 14th December 2018. To be eligible, you must be someone who has, or has had, a diagnosis of cancer, or be a carer for someone who has had a diagnosis of cancer. These bursaries will cover the cost of full conference registration (both days including accommodation), conference dinner and second class travel to the conference (up to a maximum of £150). If you wish to apply for the consumer bursary please email Lorraine Warrington treasurer@bpos.org with a brief paragraph outlining why you would like to attend.  The bursary winner will be drawn from a hat!

Applications for the student bursary are now closed. We will be notifying applicants of the outcome before 7th December 2018.

Presentation guidelines

Please see below the guidance for poster, e-poster and oral presentations for the British Psychosocial Oncology Society Annual Conference 2019.

ORAL

  • Please see the draft conference programme for the day and time of your presentation.
  • Each oral presentation will last 10 minutes with 5 minutes for questions at the end.
  • Please rehearse your talk to make sure it will fit comfortably into the available time.
  • Please email your PowerPoint presentation to conference@bpos.org by Tuesday 26th February 2019. Please also ensure that you bring a copy of your presentation with you to the conference on a memory stick and that you arrive at your meeting room at least 20 minutes before the start of your session (or an appropriate break in the programme) in order to familiarise yourself with the room and upload your presentation.

E-POSTER

  • Please see the draft conference programme for the day and time of your presentation.
  • 3 minute presentation with 2 minutes for questions at the end.
  • E-poster to be displayed as either 1 PowerPoint slide or 4 short PowerPoint slides (Introduction, Aims, Methods, and Conclusion).
  • The fun thing about E-posters is that you can convey information that would not necessarily be possible with a traditional printed poster. For example, by including brief video clips or animated charts/graphs etc.
  • Please email your e-poster to conference@bpos.org by Tuesday 26th February 2019. Please also ensure that you bring a copy of your presentation with you to the conference on a memory stick and that you arrive at your meeting room at least 20 minutes before the start of your session (or an appropriate break in the programme) in order to familiarise yourself with the room and upload your presentation.
  • In addition to your e-poster presentation, you may also have a physical poster displayed if you wish. Please follow the guidelines below for poster printing instructions.

POSTER

  • Portrait orientation and no larger than 1830mm (6ft) high and 940mm (3ft) wide.  A0 size is usual.
  • You may put up your poster any time from 9am onwards on Thursday 28th of February.
  • You will be allocated a number and assigned a board on which to hang your poster (Velcro will be provided).
  • We will be having informal and a dedicated poster viewing sessions throughout the Conference.
