Psycho-Oncology – Announcing the New Challenges to Psycho-Oncology Research Series

January 17, 2017

The Editors wish to announce the New Challenges to Psycho-Oncology Research Series for 2017. It will entail the publication of four invited Editorials by well known investigators to alert the field about exciting research opportunities in a particular emerging area. Each Editorial will be accompanied by a Commentary by an expert investigator.  We hope that the journal will thereby stimulate new research initiatives by bringing a proactive approach to author-submitted research. The Series will begin with New Challenges in Precision Medicine Oncology and Targeted Therapies. The revolution in oncology of treatments based on molecular information has changed the basis on which diagnosis and treatment of cancer are determined. It behooves psycho-oncologists to be familiar with these changes and the psychosocial sequelae that accompany them. Concurrent the precision medicine evolution is the new Digital Age of Communication in which information about new cancer treatments is spread rapidly by internet, social media and, in some countries, by direct advertising to the public. How well do psycho-oncologists understand these dual social upheavals? How much attention are we giving to the consequences of heightened expectations? The Editorial is written by Dr. Daniel McFarland, both oncologist and psycho-oncologist, Dr. Jimmie Holland, psycho-oncologist  and Ms. Liz Blackler, social worker. The Commentary, is written by Dr. Larry Norton, senior breast oncologist at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and internationally recognized medical oncologist.

Attention BPOS members! BPOS students pages need you!

July 14, 2016

Attention BPOS members! BPOS students pages need you!

What one piece of advice would you give to yourself when you were starting out on your career?

What do you know now that you wish you had known then?

BPOS student webpages are looking for volunteers to take part in short ‘interviews’ about their careers as either researcher or clinicians, or anyone else interested in sharing their experience for the benefit of BPOS students, for example patient representatives, those working in the charity, policy and health services sector.

Our students have said they would like to hear from a real range of people, so we would like to hear from you whatever your background or experience.

These interviews will be on-going and frequently updated on the student BPOS website.

We hope this will prove an interesting and useful resource for our student members. If you are interested or have any ideas about future content please contact jenny.harris@kcl.ac.uk or w.kent@chester.ac.uk

Digital technologies and cancer survivorship - Call for Papers

March 8, 2016

Digital technologies, including eHealth applications, online interventions and telecare are having a significant impact on how many chronic illnesses are evaluated, treated and managed over time. Journal of Cancer Survivorship is seeking papers for a Special Section (4-6 papers) of the journal that showcases how technology is changing the landscape of quality health care from evaluation to long-term survivorship.

We are looking for original research papers (qualitative, quantitative, mixed methodology), or systematic or meta analytic reviews addressing a unique technological advance that improves or has the potential to improve the health, quality of health care, function, health behaviour and/ or well-being of cancer survivors post primary treatment for cancer. We are particularly interested in manuscripts that evaluate novel digital/electronic/online interventions for supporting cancer survivorship.

All manuscripts must follow the author instructions which can be found on the right hand side of this page and uploaded using the Journal’s Editorial Manager. A covering letter stating that the submission is to be considered for the ‘Digital technologies and cancer survivorship’ special issue is also required.

Deadline for submissions is 1st December 16, 2016.
