Positions available on BPOS executive committee

BPOS executive committee nominations –We are seeking nominations for 2 positions on the BPOS executive committee to start July 2017. 

The posts are as follows:

·         Secretary-currently held by Dr Trish Holch

·         Palliative care/clinical psychology position – currently held by Dr Iain Lawrie

Posts are usually held for 3 years and this a great opportunity to join a passionate multidisciplinary committee and contribute to helping BPOS advance education, research, and practice-based care in psychosocial oncology.

Program planning in full swing
The abstract submission process has ended and we are proud to report that thanks to all of you, we have received over 500 abstracts. We are now building the congress program which will contain a great variety of Abstracts appealing to Researcher, clinicians and educators. Notifications of Acceptance will be sent out on the 20th of April.


Early Bird Registration – Deadline extended!
Good news for all of you who haven’t registered for the congress yet. The deadline for early bird registration has been extended until May, 15th 2017! This gives you two additional weeks to benefit from Early Bird registration fees. Visit http://www.ipos2017.com/congress-and-social-registration.html to find all registration types and fees.


All Key Note Speakers announced
Another four speakers joined the IPOS2017 congress and completed our Key Note Speaker team. We are happy to announce the following new Key Note Speakers: Matthias Rose will be speaking about “Relevant patient-reported psychosocial outcome criteria in clinical studies”, Lonneke van de Poll-Franse about “Long term and late effects of cancer treatment”. Odette Wegwarth will present the topic of “Reckoning with risk: The implication of medical risk competence on cancer care delivery” and Paul Jacobsen will be talking about “Improving care delivery for cancer survivors”. PSO Annual Conference News

For the PSO Annual Conference we can proudly announce the following to Key Note Speakers: Olaf v.d. Knesebeck with his Key Note about “Social determinants of health - current status and relevance for oncology/Soziale Determinanten von Gesundheit - Forschungsstand und Bezug zur Onkologie” and Susanne Singer who will be talking about “Socio-economic disparities in psycho-oncology/Sozioökonomische Ungleichheit in der Psychoonkologie”. Please note that these Key Notes are part of the PSO Annual Conference and thus will be held in German. The PSO Annual Conference is taking place on August 15th 2017. Macmillan Cancer Support calls for research grant application outline by May 8th

Macmillan Cancer Support calls for research grant applications in three priority areas

 

The Macmillan Research Grants Scheme is now open to applications for our 2017 call. To reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer, we invest in research that helps us to understand the numbers, needs and experiences of people living with cancer and generates the evidence needed to enable a better cancer experience.

 

We invite outline applications for projects in the following areas:

 

  1. The role of primary care in meeting the needs of people living with cancer
  2. People living with cancer that cannot be cured
  3. The use of digital technology to improve the experience and outcomes of people living with cancer

The deadline for outline applications is 8th May 2017.

2017 conference prizes and bursaries

Our 2017 conference prizewinners and bursary recipients are as follows. Well done to all, including the many other excellent presenters who made the judging so very hard.  The talks were so interesting and there was a large number of excellent, well designed posters on display, making the winners' achievements even more impressive.
