The British Psychosocial Oncology Society (BPOS) exists to advance education, clinical practice and research in psychosocial oncology and, in particular, to promote increased knowledge of this subject among professional persons who work with cancer patients and their families.
BPOS is managed by a small Executive Committee, currently chaired by Prof Nick Hulbert-Williams (Edge Hill University). Executive Committee members serve as Trustees of the Charity, and are usually appointed for three years in the first instance.
The Executive Committee usually meet at least four times per year, with two of these being online (reasonable out of pocket expenses are covered for in-person meetings). Executive Committee members are expected to be active throughout their term of office, contributing to meetings, online discussions, working groups and initiatives. Executive Committee members are expected to attend the AGM/Annual Conference. These are unpaid, voluntary positions.
We are current seeking up to four new members to join the Executive Committee, with a term of office starting April 2025, following the next Annual General Meeting. You do not have to be a BPOS member to nominate yourself for a position on the Executive Committee, but you must be willing to join as a paid member if you are successfully appointed. The following Executive Committee roles are currently available:
- Consumer Representative (someone who has had cancer, or is a carer of someone who has had cancer, within the past five years)
- Events Coordinator (to support organisation of the Annual Conference, AGM and other society events)
- Nursing Representative
- Psychiatry or Allied Health Professional Representative
To nominate yourself for a position on the committee, please send a copy of your CV and a short statement of interest (maximum 150 words) to the BPOS Chair, Nick Hulbert-Williams (chair@bpos.org) by 12:00 noon on Monday 24th March 2025. Please make it clear which position you wish to nominate yourself for.
Nominations will be initially screened by the current Executive Committee for suitability. If there is more than one nomination for a specific position, we will hold a members’ vote at the BPOS Annual General Meeting on Thursday 27th March 2025.
If you have any questions about the role, please feel free to contact Nick at chair@bpos.org.
